The Sharjah and Ajman cricket councils have teamed up to organize the first-ever Super League twenty20 tournament, aimed at providing the top talent in the UAE an ideal platform to showcase their skills.
The Super League, featuring the top 16 teams in the country, will be played at Al Dhaid Cricket Village in Sharjah and Ajman from next week.
The Super League will follow international playing conditions. According to the format of the Super League, both the councils will organize two tournaments individually under the names of Ajman Council Super League and the Sharjah Invitation League.
The two tournaments will be coordinated by the two councils with all the 16 teams playing on alternate weeks in Al Dhaid Village,Sharjah and Ajman. The schedules of the matches will be released in advance until the final is played. As such, this will be the first time the teams on the domestic circuit will receive an organized schedule of their cricket calendar.
The 16 teams selected by the two councils are: Emirates Islamic Bank, Eurocon Alubond, Lanka Lions, Universal Steel, Pak Emirates, ECB Blues, Al Hamad Contracting, Khatri CC, Yogi Group, CSS Group, Nucaf Tellicherry, Ibsons CC, Rufi Real Estate, Eslam Group, Transgulf and ETA Ascon.
Both the Sharjah and Ajman councils will also run a parallel league for the teams which are not listed among the top 16 Super League teams. The Sharjah Cricket Council will start their league on October 17 and the Ajman Cricket Council will kick off their tournament the following week from October 24.
The twenty20 format of cricket has almost become a rage all over the cricket-playing nations following the stunning success of the first ICC World Cup and the Indian Premier League and the UAE is no exception. The case in point in the recent Ramadan events held in different emirates.
