It was a special moment for UAE cricketer Nigel Fernandes. He has been featured in Emirates Airlines’ advertisement unveiling the ICC T20 World Cup themed A380 aircraft alongside Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan.
Fernandes has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and has represented the UAE in Asia Cup 2008 and the Intercontinental Cup 2006-2009. He has also captained the Fly Emirates cricket team and represented this team for 18 years.

Speaking about his experience, Fernandes said: “I am delighted to be part of the unveiling of the ICC T20 World Cup themed A380 aircraft presentation by Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. As a former UAE player and captain of the Fly Emirates cricket team, I was given this opportunity by the company to be part of this historic event.”

Fernandes, who works as a Ground Dispatcher for Emirates Airlines, then went on to say: “It was an amazing experience for me and extremely proud moment for my team members to showcase the largest passenger aircraft at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which is presently co-hosted by the UAE.”

As part of the shoot, Fernandes had to walk close to the aircraft wearing a helmet and carry a cricket bat with him. Aircrafts and cricket bats have been part of Fernandes’ life all along. In fact, away from work he relaxes playing cricket, something that he has loved all his life. For the shoot, Fernandes, who is a left-hander, takes stance, followed by Dhawan talking about his excitement on the unveiling of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 themed A380 aircraft.

While playing in the Asia Cup at Lahore, Nigel was one of Sri Lanka’s mystery spinner Ajanta Mendis’ victims when he got stumped by the legendary Kumar Sangakkara. In 2012, while playing for Fly Emirates against the strong Lancashire team, Nigel top scored with 33 runs. In 2010, Fernandes captained Fly Emirates team that had Pakistan’s legendary allrounder Shahid Afridi in the squad. Afridi had made a guest appearance for them in the Emirates Airline Twenty20 tournament in Dubai. Nigel lifted the trophy as winners of that tournament.
